May 10, 2008 - Bruce Sawyer Cemetery, Pomfret, Connecticut
After leaving Franklin Plains, I had read on the Franklin town website that they had recently opened a tiny library and it was open on Saturday. It has been our experience, that libraries in little towns are goldmines. We stopped at the library and there was little genealogical information, but the lady there, Teresa like me, was very helpful in…

May 10, 2008 - Franklin Plains Cemetery, Franklin, Connecticut
Next to Franklin Plains Cemetery, our third visit, in hopes of locating Captain John Lathrop and his wife Elizabeth Abell and their son Zebulon. We located Elizabeth and Zebulon, but could not find John. We were disturbed to see how much the stones have deteriorated in five years. That is why we are passionate about this website and documenting…

May 10, 2008 - Gager Cemetery, Franklin, Connecticut
We stayed the night in Willington and returned to one of our favorite places - Franklin, Connecticut. Our first visit to Gager Cemetery brings back fond memories of locating an overgrown cemetery (directions by a farmer down the street from it) in 2003 and finding Bruce's Connecticut Downer grandfathers in dense vines and vegetation. We drove to…

Eventually, we located Joseph in Franklin Plains, but didn't realize at the time, that most of the Norwich founders are Bruce's grandfathers until we…

May 10, 2008 - Ye Antientest Buriall Ground, New London, Connecticut
I have mentioned our love affair with our new friend, Ms GPS. She allowed us to travel from cemetery to cemetery with ease, allowing Bruce to enjoy the scenery for a change, without his nose buried in a map or looking for street signs. I would highly recommend them for these types of trips! In the GPS, there was a reference to the Old…

May 9, 2008 - Old Settler's Burial Field, Lancaster, Massachusetts
After leaving Portland, we traveled to Lancaster, Massachusetts. It was a rainy day, but with our new friend - Ms. GPS - we were able to arrive in Lancaster in record time. Once we found the cemetery, we were disappointed to learn that we were not in the Old Settlers Cemetery. We went back to the car, and located a map that we had printed for…
